Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry at Wesley Church was established in May 2011.  If you can knit or crochet, if you are a man or a woman, come join this group.  We meet in the parlor year round on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 10AM and 7PM.  We make prayer shawls, lap afghans, and baby blankets as gifts of healing for those in a hospital or nursing home or to celebrate a wedding or a new baby.  These are given to members, relatives, and friends near and far who are in need of special payers, thoughts and hugs.
Come and join us–we can always use more hands.  If you know someone in need of prayers, love and hugs, the shawls and afghans are available by calling the church office or Gayle Besemer at 703-780-7624.  And as Bud West says, “Knitting and crocheting has no gender–it is like being a Christian.”
Since beginning, this ministry has made many shawls, lap afghans, and baby blankets.   Of those made, we have distributed 186 lovingly, handmade,  creations to someone in need….

Please come and be a part of this amazing ministry.  It in itself is therapeutic as well!!!

May God’s grace be upon this shawl…
Warming, comforting, enfolding
and embracing…
May this mantle be a safe haven…
A sacred place of security
and well being…
Sustaining and embracing in good
times as well as difficult ones.
May you be cradled in hope,
kept in joy, graced with peace
and wrapped with love.
Blessed be!
