ROCK (Route One Community Kitchen) – On the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 11:30-1:30, Wesley United Methodist Church serves a Thanksgiving type lunch for approximately 35 homeless and working poor guests at the Elks Lodge at 7120 Richmond Highway in Alexandria. Approximately 7 members of Wesley UMC participate in this mission each month.
A menu of the chicken and stuffing casseroles, cranberry sauce, a green salad, bread and butter, apples and a sweet dessert are served each time. The casseroles are made in advance and brought to the church kitchen – where they are heated and picked up and brought to the Elks to be served along with all the other menu items.
It is wonderful and longstanding ministry of our church which is greatly appreciated by the folks who enjoy the luncheon. (Other churches and community organization provide lunch on the other days. If you would like to participate or would like more information, please contact the Wesley ROCKitchen coordinator, Sonia Holman at 703-619-7030.
